OkTrauma and IHOM-NA, Working Together to Heal Trauma!

The Institute for Healing of Memories - North America (IHOM-NA) is partnering with OkTrauma to create a thriving humanity by bringing the trauma conversation and experience into popular culture.

Today we are committed to growing communities to drive awareness for our nonprofit partners and courageous people like you. We do this by encouraging people to use the #oktrauma hashtag on personal posts about turning trauma into positive transformation.

HOM-NA is an affiliate of the Institute for Healing of Memories in South Africa, founded by Fr. Michael Lapsley to promote healing and reconciliation in the pos-apartheid years. In 1990 he survived a letter bomb sent by the apartheid regime, and has since devoted his life to facilitating the healing of others. Developed at the Trauma Center for Victims of Violence and Torture in Cape Town, South Africa, the institute facilitates workshops around the world, enabling participants from diverse ethnic groups, races, and religions to reach a better understanding of themselves and each other.

“In our Healing of Memories work we have created a powerful method that honors people for their sacrifices and yet encourages them in the fullness of time to lay down their burdens and integrate pain into a new life. In this way none of us need remain imprisoned by the past, but we can become agents of the future, helping to shape and create a better world.”

— Father Michael Lapsley, Institute Founder
